Students at Temple Elementary School compete in "Jack Facts," whereas the students race the clock to complete as many math facts as possible correctly. Winners being named to the "Jack Facts Hall of Fame" include Yesenia Gonzales, Alejandra Chavez, Samantha Acker, Michael Wojasinski, Clarissa Sepulveda, Tiffany Simmons, Polo Cortes, Adrian Hernandez, Ethan Davis, Zoe Washington, Benjamin Lowther, Faith McClellan, Jordan Jackson, Cecil Loche, Marion Miller and Caleb Stewart.
Diboll High School Lumberjacks football squad scalps the Cleveland High School Indians 56-18 to win first game of season.
Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks football team falls short as they are beaten by the University of Arizona Wildcats 28-10. The loss drops SFA to 0-3 for the season.
Open house is unveiled of a new wing at Trinity Mission of Diboll with State Representative Jim McReynolds as keynote speaker for the event. The new wing includes 22 more beds. The Crimestoppers Band provides the musical entertainment.
Diboll City Council approves the hiring of Mark McGaughey as its newest police reserve officer.

The Heart Institute of East Texas and it's founder Dr. Revinder Bachireddy, marks its 20-anniversary.
Lufkin Panthers trounce the Golden Dragons of Nacogdoches 56-0 in the state's oldest football rivalry.
Splendora Wildcats trims Jacks 28-27 in season opener. Special team miscues do in the Lumberjacks.
Defense sparks Huntington Red Devils in 20-14 win over Kountze. Two fumble returns help Huntington squad even its season record at 1-1.
Temple-Inland Forest Products Corp. and the Nature Conservancy signs landmark cooperative agreement to identify, protect and manage sites of unique conservation value on Temple-Inland forestlands in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia.
Alexis Grimaldo, 3, of Diboll is crowned Little Miss Diboll Day Queen.
Huntington High School's homecoming king and queen for 2002 are John Brandenburg and Cessali Allen.
TEN YEARS AGO
Mill Street in Diboll is officially renamed Martin Luther King Street in honor of the civil rights leader by city council.
Latane Temple, grandson of Diboll's founder, T. L.L. Temple and long-time Southern Pine Lumber Company and Temple Industries executive, passes away at age 82 at his home in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
The 1997 Diboll Littlejack Junior Varsity cheerleaders are Amanda Sample, Cathlene Godwin, Head Cheerleader April Stoddard, Tiffany McWilliams, Alecia Garrett, Nicole Lamb, Daphne Fowler, Ashley Williams and sponsors Charlotte Perritte and Kathy Odom.
T.L.L. Memorial Library in Diboll congratulates Lindsey Campbell for reading 144 books in its Summer Reading Club program.
Lufkin Industries acquires the Nabla Corporation of Midland, Texas. Nabla provides oilfield technical services.
Temple-Inland's Diboll Lumber Operations celebrate 2 years of Zero Lost Time Accidents.

Kerri S. Wyrick of Lancaster weds Mark. D. Picou of Lufkin at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Linehan officiating.
The 1987 Diboll High School Lumberjack football squad includes Michael Fisher, Everado Castillo, Orlando Flores, Jesus Reyes, Gerald Griffin, Julian Jackson, James Teal, Eddie Fairchild, Tony Drake, Gary McKinney, John Hernandez, Jaime Flores, Monte Russaw, Gary Durham, Sherrick Dray, Ricky Medina, Robert Davis, James Craft, Scott Perry, Rolando Torres, Jesus Rodriquez, Brian Powell, Hector Trevino, Richard Farley and Joseph McGuire.
State Farm Insurance Agent Nathan Edwards and his staff is now operating from their new offices on Hines Street, just off Highway 59 near Temple Memorial Library. The former Vina Wells home is being refurbished and there is ample parking for clients.
Jill Hill is named registrar at Angelina College and James Kennedy is named director of the AC business division.
Diboll VFW Post Commander Carl Halsell pushes dirt with back hoe as other VFW volunteers work on forms as work is under way for the new VFW building just off of FM 1818. Post members are doing much of the labor.
School site search committee members view aerial maps of the proposed new high school sites in the Harris Street area in north Diboll. Attending the meeting are engineer Richard Vance, DISD Asst. Supt. Dr. Billy Bowman, trustee Tommy Ard, Supt. Jim Dunlap, trustee Jack Beene and trustee Beauford Chapman.

Newly elected officers of the Diboll Flower Gardeners include Juanita Amason, treasurer; Martha Quarles, secretary; Nedra Foster, first vice president; Louise McKinney, installing officer; Gayle Beene, second vice president; and Jackie Harbordt, president.
Mrs. Marjorie Shepherd of Diboll presents special slide presentation on "The Treasures of Tutankhamun" at Temple Memorial Library. Mrs. Shepherd visited Egypt recently and viewed the tomb of the boy king.
Arthur Temple, Chairman and Chief executive Officer of Temple-Eastex Incorporated announce that Joe C. Denman is elected president of the Texas-based subsidiary of Time, Inc.
Diboll City Council members agree to give Southern Pacific Railroad officials more time to find a solution to blocked railroad crossings in town.
Temple-Eastex President Joe Denman announces $21 million expansion of the Temple Division's fiberboard operations in Diboll. Denman says the plant's exterior siding capacity will be increased by 65 per cent to 252,000,000 feet per year and a new wood-fired boiler plant will be installed.
Diboll Police and Constable Monk Warner recover almost all the valuables stolen in several burglaries that occurred earlier this month on Booker and Nelson Streets. Local citizen is arrested and charged.
