Diboll educators to see larger paycheck

An amendment to the Diboll ISD pay schedule was approved by the Board of Trustees during a recent meeting of the board and will add an additional $420 per year more for teachers in the district and making the starting salary for a teacher in DISD $34,900.

The increase is due to an additional $23 per student in weighted average daily attendance approved by the legislature and comes in addition to a raise which was approved by the board this past March.

Also approved at the meeting was an amendment to the district stipend schedule to include a $1,200 per campus stipend for technology.

In his superintendent's report, Superintendent Brent Hawkins reported student enrollment for the district at 1,830 students, which is down 35 students from last year.

Hawkins also presented trustees with a summer school report, which showed 129 students from kindergarten through eighth grade attended summer classes, mainly for remediation purposes.

In addition, 30 high school students attended summer school at the Stubblefield Learning Center, in Lufkin.

The superintendent also presented a plan for development of quality staff members to the board.
