Diboll teams have big night against Liberty

Last Thursday night, the 7th and 8th grade Lumberjacks traveled to Liberty to face-off with the Panthers.

As both teams played tough defense however, the 7th grade Marine Jacks found themselves in a dogfight for control of the ball. The Panthers defense seemed to be no match for the Lumberjacks as the Jacks forced a Panther turnover, forcing them back to their own 2-yard line. The Lumberjacks offense seemed to be in a good position to score as they put the ball into the hands of quarterback Jason Cook. Cook carried the pass up the middle scoring a triumphant touchdown with Carlo Teal adding the 2-point conversion. With the Marine Jacks on fire they conquered over the defeated Panthers 8-0.

The 7th grade Ranger Jacks pressed hard on the Panthers Thursday night but came up short. With incomplete passes and heat from the Panthers defense, the Ranger Jacks turned over a lose to the Panthers 20-0. Rangers expected to reclaim their glory in next week's game.

The promising 8th grade White team which has been improving each week showed up Thursday night with their game face on. The White team held the Panthers to a no scoring game by playing tough defense and pressing hard one the Panthers running plays. The offense struggled a little during the first quarter but warmed up in time for the victory. The final score Lumberjacks 0, Panthers 0.

The 8th grade Red Team had no trouble handling the Panthers as running back Terrence Taylor led the Jacks with 310-yards rushing and four touchdowns. The Jacks manhandled the Panthers as quarter-back/running-back Eli Hernandez added another 120-yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. The struggling and confused Panthers braced for impact as Eli added another 100-yard 2-point conversion return. Running back Doug Waters sealed the Panthers fate by adding yet another 2-point conversion. With the Red team on top, the final score was 48-14.

The 7th and 8th grade Lumberjacks will travel to Splendora next week with games starting at 5 pm and 7pm.

The freshmen football team felt good about coming back home to play and got back on their winning ways by grinding out a 32 to 16 win over the Liberty Panthers. It started with the offense taking the ball after the initial kickoff on a 60-yard march culminating in a touchdown run by Chris Bailey and a successful 2-point conversion from Bailey to Jerry Brown. After the defense forced a turnover the offense charged into the end zone again by air from Bailey to Brown for the touchdown and it was Bailey on the ground for the conversion. As the Lumberjacks caught the wave of momentum on defense, it was Bailey who was able to scoop and score a midfield Liberty fumble while Nick Scott joined in on the 2 point conversion. The last scoring drive came after a defensive stand at Diboll's own 8-yard line where Nick Scott took over and carried the ball twice running 12 and 80 yards for the touchdown. Brown caught the conversion from Bailey. Great effort from the offensive line of Daniel Smith, Carlos Medina, Brandon White, Cyrus Martin, and Jordan Hernandez proved to be the difference. Defensively, Roy Villanueva, Javier Hernandez, and Kris Whitworth came up big time after time and an on side kick recovery by Danny Valdez that sealed the deal.

The JV football team held on to their undefeated season by blowing out the Panthers 45 to 0. The shut out by the rabid defense was masterfully charged by Colby Roden, Caleb Stanford, Xavier Oliphant, Victor Compean, Vandel Rios, Chris Hensley, Jim Mettlen and Justin Burchfield. Gadalupa Alonso had 3 successful extra point conversions after touchdowns by Alan Alverez, Cole Hodge, two by Christian Lovelady from Hodge and three by JJ Hubbard. Hubbard finshed the night with 174 yards running the ball as Hodge was able to throw for 102 yards. It was the hard work up front by linemen Steven Brown, Isaac Carrillo, Andy Spillers, Chris DeJesus, Justin Havard and Rafeal Sepulveda that made the offense work seamlessly. The Subvarsity teams are at home agin next week and look forward to their meeting with Splendora.
