Winnie L. Davis, 90, of Diboll, was born November 18, 1916, in Lovelady, Texas, the daughter of the late Leona Edith (Holliday) and Rev. O.H. Thornton. She passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2007, in a Lufkin hospital.
Services for Mrs. Davis were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2007, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Rodney Goins and Reverend Bruce Frazier officiating. Interment followed in the Pennington Cemetery in Pennington, Texas.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her late husband was Rev. A.S. Davis, and she had served as a pastor's wife for 50 years. She loved to fish and to work in her flower and vegetable gardens. Mrs. Davis was a member of Diboll's First Assembly of God Church, and had lived in Diboll since 1984.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and Ray Kilgore of Lufkin, Ruby and Joe Goins of Diboll, and Annis and Gerald Williams of Diboll; ten grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren; sister, Dee Henderson; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceding Mrs. Davis in death were her husband, Rev. A.S. Davis; infant son, Arthur Leroy Davis; infant daughter, Nelda Elaine Davis; and grandson, Billy Kilgore. Pallbearers will be Patrick Kilgore, Michael Kilgore, Josh Williams, Caleb Williams, Nathan Duke, Jonathan McNaughton, Casey Dunlap and Art Hernandez.
