This weekend the Running Jacks traveled to Hudson to run in the Billy McGaughey Invitational. It was a wet and muddy race packed full of competition. While the course might have been muddy and slow the competition was very close and prestigious.
The girls were 2nd out of 13 teams including all district competition, being edged out by Hudson. Finishers in the 2 mile race were as follows: Amanda Drake- 4th in 13:56 (Beating many of the top runners in the region); Gabby Saucedo- 27th in 15:18; Brittany Howell- 33rd in 15:27; Brittany Feeney- 36th 15:32; Isabel Luna- 37th in 15:35; Samantha Garcia- 39th in 15:36 and Priscilla Aguilar- 54th in 16:10
According to coach Zack Johnson, "These times were slow because of wet conditions and a muddy course but the girls did an outstanding job. There were 107 girls total in the race."
The boys team ran a 5k (3.1 miles) race which had a total of 117 runners. "The boys were 4th out of 15 teams in an extremely tough and competitive race with several state ranked teams." Johnson said. The times were as follows:
Juan Robles was 4th with a time of 17:33, (beating 6 individual state qualifiers); Guadalupe Alonso- 18th in 18:55; Scott Drake- 31st in 19:36; Hunter Burroughs- 73rd in 21:40; Esteban Solis- 79th 21:58; CJ Gelvin- 86th 22:40 and Alek Gaard- 92nd 23:06.
The junior varsity girls pulled out another win during this competion. Places and times are: Liz Castillo- 3rd in 15:14; Rosie Cruz- 7th 16:18; Maria Olvera- 10th 16:45; Jillian Blair- 14th in 17:34; Carolina Silva- 17:34; Blanca Mendez- 24th in 18:03; Caurie Cheshire- 28th in 18:42; Crystina Gaitan47th 21:28 and Dianna Torres- 48th 21:33.
