Junior squads fall to Splendora

The freshmen were not able to overcome early turnovers and lost to Splendora 20 to 0. A long run up the middle offensively by Jerry Brown for 25 yards and a touchdown saving deflected pass by Ceadalupasar Obregon defensively were the highlights of the game.

The JV had the great start to what would become a barnburner in a 23 to 26 defeat at the hands of Splendora. Gadalupa Alonzo started the scoring by booting a 24-yard field and on the ensuing defensive stand Kenneth Curry knocked the ball from the Splendora ball carrier and Jim Mettlen scooped it up and scored, Alonzo kicked the extra point. Slendora scored with about 32 seconds left in the half but your Lumberjacks came right back with a quick strike bomb from Cole Hodge to Christian Lovelady, to make it 16 to 6 at the half. The second half was a struggle right from the start as Splendora's kickoff buried the Jacks deep at their own 1-yard line.

The trouble only started there as we watched Splendora score 20 unanswered points until late in the game when Diboll put together a 70-yard drive that included one long completion and a touchdown pass from Hodge to Vandel Rios while Alonso connected on the extra point.

The on-side kick was not successful and time ran out on the comeback. The Jacks will start district next Thursday at Rusk while the freshmen will be traveling to Tatum for a game.
