Funeral services for Curtis Calvin ''Sug'' Grimes, 82, of the Beulah Community, were held Monday, October 8, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Carroll Lansford and Brother Ronnie Frankens officiating, with a eulogy by Scott Grimes. Interment followED in Grimes Cemetery.
Mr. Grimes was born October 30, 1924 in Angelina County, Texas, to the late Minnie (Hambrick) and Calvin Marion Grimes, and died Friday, October 5, 2007 in Baytown. Mr. Grimes was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and retired from Lufkin Trailers. He was a member of Beulah Congregational Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Earline Grimes; daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Jim Love of Highlands; son, Curtis Wayne Grimes of Diboll; son and daughter-in-law, Freddy and Judy Grimes of Austin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Walterine ''Dixie'' Grimes of Diboll and Joe Bill and Jean Grimes of Canton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Sam Jones of Winters and Maudice and Jimmy Davis of Highlands; grandchildren, Curtis L. Griffin of Manor, Kevin Griffin and wife Sarah of Austin, Bobby Grimes and wife Sharon of Kyle; Kyle Grimes and fiance Marcy of Corrigan, Bronson Grimes and wife Susan of Dripping Springs, Kaylon Grimes and wife Amber of Corrigan, Candy Weinhold and husband Gus of Georgetown, and Carrie Barbour and husband Wes of Austin; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, Jacey Reece Kirk; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ollie Grimes; and sister, Adelle Hooks.
Pallbearers were Kevin Griffin, Bronson Grimes, Kyle Grimes, Bobby Grimes, Pete Waterloo, Justin Grimes, Gary Jones, and Darrell Davis.
Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Haley. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grimes Cemetery Association, c/o Robert K. Holt, 1306 Brown Drive, Diboll, Texas 75941.
