Lucille Carrell Gibbs, 91, of Lufkin, was born June 26, 1916, in Huntington, Texas, to Grover Cleveland Carrell, Sr. and Bertha Graham Carrell. She passed away Saturday, October 13, 2007, in a local nursing facility.
Mrs. Gibbs was a homemaker, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was married to Finis Gibbs for 66 years. She was a graduate of Huntington High School and Satterwhite Business College. Mrs. Gibbs was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, and was active in many areas of the Church. She was a member of the Lufkin Garden Club, a founding member of the Huntington Garden Club, a long-time Girl Scout leader, and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Bogalusa, Louisiana. She loved travel, and she and Finis visited much of the world.
Survivors include her two daughters and their husbands, Barbara Gibbs Kott and Gary of Montgomery and Marjorie Gibbs Frantz and Robert of Galveston; four grandchildren, Charles Kott and wife Suzanne of The Woodlands, Reagan Kott and wife Carol of The Woodlands, Stephen Frantz and wife Darla of Richmond, and Carole Bell and husband Mike of Galveston; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by her husband, Finis Gibbs; sister, Bertie Carrell LaRue Tipton; and brothers, Milton Carrell, Wilburn Carrell and G. C. Carrell, Jr. Pallbearers will be Charles Kott, Reagan Kott, Stephen Frantz, Mike Bell, Ronnie Kott and Daniel Frantz.
Services for Mrs. Gibbs were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2007, in the Henderson Chapel of First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Carol Clifford Turner and Reverend James Powell officiating.
Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
