CORNELIUS NOT 'POLKING' AROUND - Despite the efforts of Huntington quarterback Taylor Rosson to pass the ball, Diboll Lumberjacks Cornelius Polk (shown at right above) Alex Castillo and Ryan Rasbeary kept getting in his face. Polk took this one down to the two-yard line and one play later, plunged in for another Diboll score. The Lumberjacks will host the Center Roughriders (1-6) this Friday night with kickoff set for 7:30. The struggling Roughriders only win of the season came from a forfiet earlier in the season.

Stanton, Spencer move across 1,000 yard mark

The S&S duo, Stanton and Spencer, ride again as the pair combine to riddle the Red Devil defense to remain among the unbeaten in District 20-3A.

Both, Ketaraus Stanton and Jacolby Spencer reached the 1,000-yard club in rushing and passing on the same night. Stanton now has 1,054 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns, 18 rushing and two receiving, while Spencer has 1,079 yards passing with 18 touchdowns and no interceptions in seven games.

Spencer, only a junior, needs only 6 more TD passes to tie the school record of 24 jointly held by Cedric Vinson and Luis Rios. Vinson, in his second year as a coach for his alma mater, set the record in 1999 while Rios hit the mark in 2003.

In the game, Stanton rushed for 220 yards and four touchdowns, and Spencer add 88-yards on 7 of 8 passing with one touchdown.

Coach Gary Martel's Lumberjacs, currently ranked #11 in the state, should crack the top ten after this 62-15 victory and the perfect 7-0 record.

In the game's opening drive, the Lumberjacks got on the board first, when quarterback Spencer found Cutler Ruby for his third touchdown of the season, with a 16-yard TD pass. The drive, covering 69-yards in six plays, brought out Alex Castillo, Mr. Automatic, who kicked his first of seven extra points on the night which puts him at 39 PATs so far this year.

After a Huntington missed field goal attempt, Diboll took over at the Red Devil 20-yard line. Stanton, taking the handoff from Spencer, broke loose for a 71-yard gallop down the sideline for another six with Castillo following with the extra point to end the quarter with the Jack on top, 14-0.

Early in the second quarter, the Red Devils were forced to punt and Diboll took over on their 23-yard line. One play later Spencer, scored on a keeper as he rambled down the field on a 77-yard scamper, and Castillo added the extra point.

On Huntington's next possession, the Red Devils answered Diboll's one play touchdown drive with one of there own. Backup quarterback Scotty Rodgers, scored on a 67-yard run down the right sideline to put Huntington on the board. The Red Devils scored again late in the fourth quarter when, quarterback Taylor Rosson threw a 17-yard pass to Hayden Smith in the end zone. Cuu Dong ran in the two-point conversion.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Stanton saddled up to score three more touchdowns before the half. He scored on runs of 4, 68, and 3. In the last two games, Stanton has racked up nine touchdowns.

Cornelius Polk got in on the action when he intercepted a Rosson pass and returned it to the two-yard line. One play later, he plunged in for the score.

Diboll's backup quarterback, Kyle Prescott came into the game and racked up two more Lumberjack TDs to wrap up the scoring for the night. He ran one in from 4 yards out and followed that with a 16-yard keeper around the left side finishing the run with a beautiful swan dive into the end zone. Backup punter Cody Stifle kicked the extra point.

On defense, the Jacks played a great game coming up with three interceptions by Polk, Castillo and Ryan Rasbeary. Others who had a good effort in the game were Jimmy Garcia, Chance Johnson, J.R. Youngblood, and Antonio Johnson.

Next game for the Jacks (7-0,2-0) will be Friday night at Lumberjack Stadium as they host the Center Roughriders. This will be our Wall of Honor game.

Support the Jacks!! See you at the game.
