Members of the Diboll Police Department welcome new Chaplin to the fold.
Pastor Bruce L. Frazier, of Diboll's First Assembly of God, has become the newest member of the police force.
Pastor Frazier came to Diboll in April of 2007 from Texas City where he served as pastor at Third Coast Fellowship for five years. Frazier has grown up in small Gulf coast communities all his life so with a close-knit community like Diboll he feels right at home. "I love Diboll, I grew up in a small town where the population was around 1000, so a town like Diboll would have been the big city to me," said Frazier.
As a teenager, while in bible school, Frazier accepted his calling to preach the gospel and has never looked back. Frazier has been described as a loving husband to wife Deborah and a caring father to daughter's Heather, 22, Ash Lee, 27 and son Garrett, 13. Aside from doing God's work Frazier some how finds time to relax with activities such as golf, fishing and riding his motorcycle. Frazier admits he has been prepping son Garrett for the golf team at Diboll High School. A humorous Frazier can also talk a good game of football but cautions parishioners that Sunday service will not be cut short for football games, his advice, "try to get Tivo."
Pastor Frazier is no stranger when it comes to police work, his father, Edward Frazier, was a 20 year veteran of the Houston Police Department before he passed. "My dad would be proud," Frazier said of his father regarding his position with Diboll Police Department. "My family is so excited and I know my mom, Edith Frazier is also proud because police life was so enrooted into my family because of my father."
Kent Havard, Diboll Police Chief, explained that as Chaplin, Frazier will have the duties of assisting officers with spiritual needs and counseling. "Frazier is the 2nd Chaplin since my tenure here as Police Chief. When the Chaplin before moved away I had really wanted the Chaplin program to continue for the officers. If they have personal problems or need someone to talk to, they can always speak with the Chaplin. I am so pleased that we have Bruce Frazier here for us; he'll be a great inspiration to us all. The Department will issue him a uniform with a Chaplin badge and he will even go on some ride-a-longs with Diboll officers," Havard informed.
Frazier's position also involves emergency notifications and grief counseling. "Sometimes when you have to give next of kin catastrophic news it helps to have a Chaplin there to help comfort the family," said Frazier. Bruce will have a full plate with Pastor and Chaplin duties but he remains optimistic and excited about each and every new challenge.
