Ms. Alicia Cruz received the "Silver Axe Award," Tuesday, October 30th in recognition of her continued dedication to Diboll ISD and her tenacious work ethics. Superintendent Brent Hawkins presented Cruz with the "Silver Axe Award," during Tuesday night's board meeting, while an audience of family and supporters applauded her acceptance. Cruz came to Diboll from Mexico several years ago to be near family and quickly secured a job with Diboll ISD as a custodian. Cruz has worked with Diboll ISD for over 22 years with 21 of those years at Diboll Primary.

Over the years Cruz has accumulated a host of friends and proud family members. She has been described by Superintendent Hawkins, as a person with the ability to make those around her smile. Hawkins also added, "Ms. Cruz performs her job with a tremendous amount of pride and joy."

When asked what she loves the most about her job, a soft-spoken Cruz replied, "I love the children, I love the people and I love what I do." Cruz finds joy in cleanliness and keeping things in order so it's no wonder why she takes so much pride in her job. She is a dedicated and devoted worker with angelic qualities. "A team player," as Hawkins describes her when it comes to getting a project done. Ms. Cruz felt honored to receive such a distinguished award from Diboll ISD and when asked if retirement were in a future forecast she replied, "No, I love my job." Then she flashed her beautiful smile and said, "umm maybe one day."
