Diboll Cross Country runner qualify for upcoming state meet

BY ZACHERY JOHNSON

Diboll Cross Country teams celebrate their success!

Diboll Cross Country Coach

It was a successful weekend for Diboll Cross Country teams. There were many accomplishments amongst the most competitive field of runners that Diboll has seen all year. In a year where there is huge amounts of growth both in size and in quality I could not imagine a better way to cap it off than with a run at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, A.K.A. the STATE MEET!

Juan Robles ran an amazing race placing fifth in a field of 171 runners and running a time of 17:06 to qualify for the state meet as an individual.

The rest of the boys team did very good as well, they placed 13th out of 24 schools which is the highest place ever for a Diboll Cross Country team at the regional meet. The results are as follows:

Juan Robles- 5th 17:06

Guadalupe Alonso- 78th 19:08 (running with a stomach ulcer)

Francisco Salas - 85th-19:15

Scott Drake - 118th- 20:05

Hunter Burroughs- 134th 20:41

Cody Miller- 127th- 20:25

CJ Gelvin- 148th- 21:29

The girls team did not go without success either, even though they have had some better races. they placed 21st out of 24 teams and results are as follows.

Amanda Drake - 49th 13:15 which is a NEW SCHOOL RECORD!

Gabby Saucedo- 129th 14:50

Brittany Feeney- 131st 14:53

Isabel Luna- 146th 15:42

Liz Castillo- 154th 16:42

Samantha Garcia- 157th NT

Britnee Howell- 160th NT

I am extremely excited about these girls because there are no seniors on the varsity team, if they come and do the training over the summer they can be one of the best in the region so encourage them all year to do just that.

In just the second year of the program these kids have accomplished so much but there is still so far to go, with the continued support from all of you we will get there.

Juan will be running in Round Rock this Saturday so please if you happen to have some free time come out and support him thanks.
