Angelina County votes say yes to allow beer/wine to be sold at local establishments.
Diboll Temple Elementary School pays annual tribute to veterans with patriotic songs and music at school auditorium. The large crowd is welcomed by Principal Lisa Jeffrey and the choir is directed by Ms. Kim Vann.
Wilton Killam presents the program, "Early Education in Angelina County" to Angelina County Historical Society meeting held at Kurth Memorial Library in Lufkin.
The Friends Traveling Group led by Dolly Hudgins tour Michigan state sites. Making the trip are E.J. Bowers, Callie Green, Jennie Busch, Richard and Carol Faviell, Lydia McMillon, Lucille Anderson, Thomas and Dorothy Owen, Betty McCuiston, Mary Samford, Eloise and Loyd Richardson, Ray and Jean Joyroe, Tucker and Patsy Weems, Bonnie Killam, Chubby Slack, Jayne Floyd, Nancy Cumbie, Kathryn Holiday, Joan Burgett, Jack and Dolly Hudgins.

Rebecca Brock, daughter of Diane and Roger Brock of Hudson, downs 8-point buck using .243 rifle at 125 yards in the Tower Hunting Club. The buck has an antler spread of 15 3/4 inches.
C.B. "Bruce" George receives 65-year service award and pin at the Burke Masonic Lodge No. 833.
Students in Mrs. Joseph's class at Diboll Primary School visits the Texas State Railroad in Rusk to conclude a study on transportation. Making the trip are Brit Hession, Logan Bailey, Courtney Nichols, Cole Miller, Nicky Escodedo, Darbie Parks, Meghan Wagner, Ronderious Berry, Brianna Morin, Cristian DeLaCruz, Kody Jacobs, Royce Wilsle, Gerardo Zuniga, Krystal Sepulveda, Jasmine Pitones, Alondra Morones, Marie Mireles, Marco Ramirez and Jacob Wallace.
Angelina College in Lufkin celebrates 35th anniversary. First enrollment in the fall of 1968 was 660 students with 28 full time teachers and five administrators. Dr. Jack Hudgins was the first president.
Florence King of Diboll celebrates 100th birthday with reception at the Diboll Housing Authority hosted by children and friends Doris Delco and Margie Harrell.

Angelina College board of trustees approves schematic designs for the new 40,000 square foot Fine Arts Center.
First Assembly of God Church in Lufkin celebrates 76th anniversary.
Hudson High School's Angela Hannabas is selected Region 56 NEWS Scholar/athlete of the Week.
John Muhlbach, chairman of the board of trustees of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, speaks at Angelina County Chamber of Commerce's First Friday Luncheon.
Terry Colquitt rushes for 108 yards to lead the Diboll Lumberjacks to a 21-9 win over the Center Roughriders ensuring the Jacks of a share in the District 20-3A title.
Angelina Beautiful/Clean 1997 Christmas Ornaments are now on sale. The 1997 ornament features Rudolph the Red Nose Pumping Unit as depicted by local artist Aubrey Medford.
Three hundred workers at Lufkin's Louisiana-Pacific plywood plant lose their job as plant closes.
TWENTY YEARS AGO
Christian Radio Station KSWP 91FM in Lufkin announce power increase to 3,000 watts so it can now reach 45-mile radius and estimated 125,000 people from its location on State Highway 69 just north of Lufkin. Station administrator is Dwayne Calvert.
R.A. Brookshire of Lufkin establishes new scholarship at Stephen F. Austin State University in honor of his late brother, Oscar Brookshire. R.A. Brookshire is a member of the board of directors of the SFA Alumni Association.
Mike Harbordt, director of Energy and Environmental Affairs for Temple-Eastex in Diboll is elected to the board of directors of the Texas Forestry Association. Also elected to the state association's governing body is George Vorphal, general counsel for Temple-Eastex .
Lamar Tinsley, employee counselor for Texas Foundries authors book, "Remembering Ewing." Tinsley is native son of Ewing and reflects the activities of that time.
Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Lamon of Lufkin announce the engagement of their daughter, Rebecca Jean, to William Beeman, son of Mrs. Pamela L. Lynn of Dallas and the late Richard Beeman
Diboll's 21-14 win the Crockett Bulldogs earns the Jacks' Bi-District title and advances to play state-ranked and undefeated (11-0) Newton Eagles in area playoff game.
THIRTY YEARS AGO
Diboll United Pentecostal Church hosts revival with special guest evangelists Rev. and Mrs. Wayne Huntley of Waco.
Diboll Police Chief Dewey Wolf and DPD Officer Alton Lenderman confiscate 42 pounds of marijuana from passing motorist. It is believed to be the largest seizures of pot in this county.
Social Security benefits are being paid to residents of Angelina County at the rate of $1,715,906 a month according to the Social Security District Manager in Lufkin.
Members of the Lufkin Music Study Club receive special awards from the National Federation of Music Clubs. Receiving citations are Mrs. C.E.Warner, Mrs. Fred Douglas, Mrs. E.W. Leach and Mrs. Shell Carter.
Luther Strain host grand opening of Diboll's newest business, Strain's Chain Saw, located on Highway 59 North with special guest, wood carver Howard Harwood.
Doug White is named manager of the Brookshire Bros. supermarket in Diboll and Thomas Lowther is the new assistant manager. Both are veteran supermarket employees.
