Funeral services for Ollie Mae DeLaFosse, 95, of Lufkin were held Sunday, November 25, 2007 in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bob Lewis and Reverend Scott Attebery officiating. Interment followed in the Chita Cemetery, Trinity County, Texas.
Ollie Mae DeLaFosse was born August 24, 1912 in Trinity County to Arrittia (Clark) and John A. Baker and passed away on November 22, 2007 at the age of 95. She lived alone, maintained her own home, drove her own car, did her own cooking, and mowed her own yard until just a few weeks ago. With her riding mower and rake, she was known to have the nicest looking yard in her area. She loved working outside, and her latest request before she fell ill was a new handle for her hoe. She knew she was nearing the end of her life, and had long been prepared for entry into eternity in the presence of Jesus. If there is a lawn care service in heaven, she would want to be in charge of it. If leaves should fall on the streets of gold in the Holy City, she would pick them up one by one if necessary with her glorified body. She loved and was dearly loved by her family, who affectionately knew her as "Memaw." She never had much of this world's goods, but she was richly blessed and her family never lacked for the necessities of life. She got her first and only speeding ticket at the age of 90, and her one and only fender-bender at the age of 93, neither of which, according to her, was her fault. She attended Denman Avenue Baptist Church, later moving to Keltys Baptist Church which was closer to home. She was employed by Beall's Department Store for 20+ years.
She was preceded in death by her husband E. Arvel DeLaFosse and her son, Ernest Earl (Bo) DeLaFosse, 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Geneva Darlene and Alfred N. Jarvis of Lufkin; grandchildren, Andy and Lea Jarvis of Hudson, Jill (Jarvis) and Scott Attebery of El Dorado, Arkansas, Robyn (DeLaFosse) Thompson of Lufkin; great grandchildren, Aaron Jarvis, Adam Jarvis, Hannah Thompson and Sarah Thompson; one sister, Suzie Vera DeLaFosse of Hudson and her sons, Charles and Phil DeLaFosse, and their families, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
