CHARLES LEWIS SR.

Funeral services for Charles D. Lewis, Sr. of Lufkin were held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at 10 a.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Dr. Roy Stephens officiating.

Mr. Lewis was born Nov. 24, 1922, in Lufkin to Verda (Legg) and Henry Richard Lewis Sr. and died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, in a local hospital. He lived in Lufkin all his life and attended Herty Baptist Church. Mr. Lewis was a loving husband and father and an avid outdoors sportsman. He served as a B-17 bomber co-pilot in the Army Air Corps and Navy during World War II and was an award winning soldier. Mr. Lewis retired as a foreman of the mail from the U.S. Postal Service, Lufkin, and he also retired from Purolator. He was a member of NAARFE, a lifetime member of the VFW, and attended Pineywoods Business College, SFASU, University of Georgia, and Angelina College. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Verda Lewis; son-in-law, Charles Krenek; and brother, H. R. (Wick) Lewis. Survivors include his wife of 59 1/2 years, Billie Lewis of Lufkin; daughter, Charlotte Krenek of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Sue Lin Lewis of Taiwan; sister, Martha Miller of Spring; grandson and wife, Mark and Michele Krenek of Corpus Christi; great grandsons, Charles Walker and William Downing Krenek of Corpus Christi; aunt, Katherine Legg Roth of Richardson; special niece and nephew, Susan and Randy Russell of Lufkin; special great niece, Hollie Russell of Longview; nephew, Robert Read of Spring; niece and nephew, Richard and Charlyn Lewis of Wheatland, WY; nephew, Andy Modisette III of Lufkin; nephews and nieces, David and Debbie Ditsworth and Eddie and Linda Ditsworth, all of Lufkin; nephew, Joe Ditsworth of Lufkin; great nephew, Bobby Read of Spring; and great great niece, Rachael Read of Spring.

Pallbearers were Randy Russell, Andy Modisette III, David Ditsworth, Joel Newman, J.T. Frisby, Howard Hartnett, Mark Pope and Jack Modisette.

Honorary pallbearers were J.B. Stubblefield, Berry Kidwell, Vance Roberts, Allen Loggins, John Jones, Billy Wall, Charles Smithhart, Billy Weaver, Leroy Beinhorn, Buster Harbor, Ed Sheller, Jerry Griffith, and the Deacons of Herty Baptist Church.
