By MARCELLA HERNDON Staff writer

TREE OF LIGHT-Diboll residents gather around the, "Tree of Light," during its annual lighting ceremony at City Hall, Thursday, December 6, 2007.
The Pilot Club of Diboll welcomed residents Thursday

night to their annual

"Tree of Light" ceremony.

Pilot Club president Billie Willmon served as mistress of ceremonies for the event that offered standing room only in the council room of Diboll City Hall.

Pastors Becky Henson of First United Methodist Church and Reverend Jerry Young of Jubilee Baptist Church were on hand to read scripture and lead the large group in prayer. Pilot Club member Vivian Holt read from the Bible the history of Christmas day and the birth of Jesus. The Temple Elementary School Choir under the direction of Mrs. Kim Vann, caroled Christmas songs with cheer and joy as proud parents stood and watched. Boy Scout Troop 128 along with Wayne Dubose, Troop leader, directed the Pledge of Allegiance.

After closing remarks by Charlotte Weeks, Tree of Light chairman, Dr. C.H. Cathcart of Faith Family Church gave the benediction. Audience members flowed out of the council room and onto the roadside where Sam Coleman was given the opportunity of turning the Christmas lights. Residents gathered around the tree and caught up on old times while children glared at the tree of light with excitement.
