Sheila's Potpourri Lulla Adams told me that she and Bob were going to Colorado to spend Thanksgiving with Karla, Chris, Cade, Cole and Ella Carroll. The night before they were to leave, son Tim Scogin called from Littleton, Colorado and reported they had been promised snow by the weather folks. I surely believed in that forecast due to the Adamses heading to Colorado Springs. Sure enough they got snow and drove about 300 miles on a highway that only had one lane open. Lulla reported that it snowed enough at the Carroll's house for three-year-old Ella and sixyear old Cole to make snow angels in the yard not only on their backs but they turned over, face down. Older brother Cade thought the two were ridiculous to do such when it was so cold. The kids had great fun at the North Pole on all the rides until another front came through bringing viciously tough cold winds. The grandparents left for Lufkin in a no snow moment but almost before they got out of sight of the house, the wintry mix of weather began They hoped to just get over Raton Pass and then they knew when they reached the Texas line, they would be good to go again. No such luck. Reaching the Dallas/Ft.Worth area the heavens opened wide with water, water everywhere and most of the residents up there decided to go shop. The ski resorts are missing the money wagon by not hiring Lulla and Bob to travel back and forth to Colorado. They are a magnet, attracting the snow. Randy and Eileen were at their barbecue group's Christmas party in Fayetteville on Saturday night, then on Sunday traveled to Paris to the Allegro plant. They were to cook lunch for the employees on Monday. On the road while the Cowboys were toiling against Detroit, Randy called about every six minutes for an update on the game. If he had to travel much on game days, he would probably figure some way to have the NFLticket funneled into a television to go along with them from place to place. Beamon was giving him all the play by play happenings. Sister Christal Shaw of Nacogdoches was off to Arlington to spend the weekend with Neal, Carrie, Colleen and Walker Shaw. I had been in the Dollar Store before that and happened to chase by the books for kids and chose a book for one year old Walker. All the other stuff seemed too young for Colleen who is five. Finally decided a little spiral notebook might please her. Knowing that something was most likely in the sack for her, she quickly dispensed with Walker's book and finding the little notebook, she was elated. Quick as a wink, she was seated at her little table, "writing" to all, her friends. She was inviting them to come to her house to play! As fast as she could "write" the message off she ripped the page and got busy with another note. The sessions did not stop there but Neal HAD to get envelopes for her, then wrote the friends' names on the front and off they went to mail the letters. Hopefully, Neal returned to keep the mail person from taking away a bunch of stamp-less letters. That made me think about how many dollars and more dollars have been spent on the many toys the two children have yet she was perfectly content to spend happy time with a dollar notebook. Makes you wonder how many little kids are just as pleased with so little yet they are given so many expensive items to pitch aside when they quickly tire of them.
