Sylvester (Puddin') Guerra

Funeral services for Sylvester "Puddin" Guerra, 66, of Hudson were held Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church with Reverend William S Slight officiating. Graveside committal service followed in the Aldredge Cemetery with Reverend Richard Joseph officiating.

Mr. Guerra was born November 9, 1941 in Camden, Texas to the late Bessie (Sanchez) and Sam Guerra and died Friday, December 7, 2007 in a local hospital. He resided in Hudson for his lifetime.

Sylvester retired from Champion Paper Mill after 32 years of service in the maintenance department. He had been employed at Peavy Primary School and was currently employed by Brookshire Brothers. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. His accomplishments included:

United States Army National Guard, EMS Coordinator for the Mill Emergency Response Team, Dale Carnegie Course, the 1992-93 Leadership Lufkin Class President, a Hudson ISD Board Member for 15 years, St Patrick School Board Member for 6 years, and was PTO President, Lufkin Adult Learning Center Board of Directors and President, 4 year member of the American Red Cross Board, CPR Instructor/Trainer for the American Heart Association, Angelina County Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors, East Texas Fire Museum Board Of Directors. Dixie Girls Softball National Director, Champion DWI Awareness Program Co-Coordinator/ Developer/Presenter, Champion Fund for Community Service; Chairman 7 years, Corporate Re-structuring Team, Hudson Volunteer Fire Department Charter Member for 10 plus years, Hudson Band Boosters President and Charter Member, The Hudson Voice (Community Newspaper), and Hudson Water Supply Board of Directors.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Guerra of Hudson; daughter, Phyllis G. Conditt of Lufkin; son and daughter-inlaw, Mark and Leah Guerra of Hudson; daughters and sons-inlaw, Sylvia and Brian Badeaux of Hudson and Cindy and Thomas Juarez of Katy; son, Gabe Guerra of Livingston; 9 grandchildren; one great grandson; brother and sister-in-law, Willie and Barbara Guerra of Pittsburg, Texas; sisters and brothers- in-law, Francis and Conrad Partida of Port Arthur and Gloria and Willie Hernandez of Hudson; sister, Ada Guerra of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-in- law, Margaret and Gilbert Tories of Waco and Sue and Edward Joseph of Pollok; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandsons, Jonathan and Sylvester Juarez.

Pallbearers were David Allen, Pete Johnson, Steve Tobias, Chris Walters Steve Hendrickson and Mark Richardson.
