Upgraded traffic signals installed at intersection of Loop 287 and FM 58

LUFKIN - The Texas Department of Transportation is advising motorists traveling through the intersection of Loop 287 and FM 58 in Lufkin to use extra caution Thursday morning, December 13, 2007. That's when new traffic signals will begin operation at the intersection. To avoid delays motorists should use other routes to reach their destinations.

The new signals will be mounted using steel poles and mast arms. The signals will operate fully traffic responsive, and will be equipped with video detection and pedestrian signals. The new signals will modernize the existing signals. These changes will hopefully reduce delays and increase safety within the intersection.

TxDOT urges motorists to use caution when traveling through the intersection and also to watch for workers in the area installing and cleaning up on the project. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
