Lillian Myrtle Smith

Lillian Myrtle Smith, 89, of Lufkin, was born August 31, 1918, in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of the late Fredericka Louise and Henry Otto Oppermann. She passed away on Sunday, December 1 6, 2007, in a Lufkin hospice facility.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Formerly of San Antonio, she had lived in Lufkin since 1963. Survivors include her daughter and sonin law, Carol Ann and Donald Scogin of Central; sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth W. and Kristy Speer of Huachuca City, Arizona, James E. Smith of Houston, and Donald L. Smith of Marshall; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Preceding Mrs. Smith in death were her husband, James Duffie Smith, in 1981 and a daughter, Betty (Davis) Tise. Pallbearers will be Eric Matthews, Doug Smith, Ronald Scogin, Mike Scogin, Charlie Charanza and Danny Bizzell. The family extends a special thanks to the 2nd Floor Nurses at Woodland Heights Medical Center and to the staff of the Hospice In The Pines Inpatient Unit.

Services for Mrs. Smith were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2007, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Smith officiating. Interment was in the Old Center Cemetery.
