Huntington United Methodist Church

December 16th was the third Sunday of Advent with the Lout Family reading the scriptures, lighting the three candles and prayer, Omega and Devon.

Thought: Advent stresses the anticipation of fulfillment: Christ is about to be born in the cradle of the believers heart and life. A joy - a joy of hope amid solemnity.

Our Christmons big tree is especially pretty this year with the many symbols. The symbols are all made form white Satin with gold braid, by loving hands. They can not be bought. The evergreen tree symbolizes, life, won for us by our savior, The Chrismons so named by using two words, "Christ" and Monogram.

Some symbos from the earliest days are the Nativity symbols: The Epiphany Star, the Christmas Rose, the Manger, the Angel, the Chalice.

The Crosses: The Latin Cross, the Jerusalem Cross, the Butterfly, the Chi Rho with Alpha and Omega - Matthew 16: 15-16. Chi an Rho - Revelation 11:13. The Fish - Matthew 4:19. The Shepherd's Staff - John 10-11, the Crook or Staff, symbolic of Christ, the Good Shepherd. The Cross and Orb: John 4: 9- 10. The Orb or Sphere symbolizes the world and the cross, the triumph of Christ over it.

The Iota - Chi - Philippians 2:11, the Crown. The Kingdom of this world has become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His, Christ and he shall reign for ever and ever. Revelation 11:15.

The Lamb with Victory Banner: Revelation 7: 9-12. The Circle with HIS: Matthew 1:21. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Hebrew: 13-8.

United Methodist Women meet every 2nd Monday of the month. Pricilla Circle meets on the third Thursday. We appreciate all the work these two groups do. Priscilla focuses on local missions while U.M.W. focuses on global. Both groups have a hand in helping our youth go to camp Lakeview in the summer.

Mark your calendar to hear Claud Decelle from our pulpit on December 30. We appreciate Claud's enthusiastic positive response to full the pulpit for that first Sunday that Martin is away. Claud is a good Mississippi Boy and we welcome him and Jane.

The December Birthdays: Christy Hopson, Dec. 30, Heather Mange, Dec. 31.

It was good to have Polly Trinkle and Carole Pinner back in church worship after illness. Pastor Martin Doran will have his surgery Dec. 28th at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.
