Pastor binds community, helps kids
By MARCELA HERNDON Staff writer

TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY-Since June, this year, Pastor Becky Henson of First United Methodist Church in Diboll has been bringing together people and faith-based organizations, along with Diboll area schools to help benefit the area's school-aged children. She anticipates involvement will grow, along with relationships in the community.
Pastor Becky Henson of First United Methodist Church in Diboll has been bringing together faith-based organizations and Diboll schools to help benefit area children.

Hen- son, pastor of FUMC since June of 2007, invited area pastors to a conversational gathering to discuss, "more involvement in the community and schools from the church."

Henson anticipates that by next school semester she will have enough volunteers from local churches to assist teachers in Diboll schools with reading time, material set-up and classroom assistance.

"We are not trying to force evangelism on children. I just know that life is not easy for parents and kids, so anything I can do to help, I want to do it. The church is all about building family," said Henson.

Henson hopes volu nteers will be able to build relationships and mentor to children who may be struggling or burdened with issues. Volunteers working along with Diboll PTSA will provide a listening post for children that need someone to talk to.

Henson's passion for children has been a life-long dedication.

"I knew that I couldn't accomplish as much as I wanted too as an individual, but with the help of others, I am hoping to accomplish everything that needs to be done," said Henson. According to Henson, she is expecting a successful program because, "the loving people of Diboll pull together when there is a need in the community."
