First graders at Diboll Primary School wowed the audience on Thursday, December 20, with their spectacular rendition of "A Gingerbread Christmas."

Long practice hours from students in the classes of Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Henderson, Ms. Bass and Mrs. Stewart paid-off big time as they acted out popular children's play written by Emily Crocker.

Under the direction of Alice McWilliams, the play opened with singing and dancing bakers along with elves (Santa's helper's choir), caroling A Gingerbread Christmas.

Soon the risers were filled with bakers, princess dolls, toy soldiers and teddy bears. Grandma, played by Scarlett Wars, along with Alivia Jackson who played Katrina, belted out "One Special Cookie."

The story centered on granny revealing the ingredients of a special Christmas cookie .

Once the cookie was baked, with a little Christmas magic the cookie came to life as the gingerbread boy, played by Adrian Reyes.

When the gingerbread boy found out that he was not a toy like all the others, but would be a treat for Santa, he wasted no time in sticking around grandma's warm and cozy kitchen. Reyes portrayal of a gingerbread boy trying to escape had the audience in stitches of laughter. In the end, gingerbread boy did not get eaten and all was well at grandma's house on Christmas Day.
