Pilot Club observes Brain Awareness Week & Brainminders Month

March is officially BrainMinders month and Brain Awareness Week is March 10-16. The Pilot Club of Diboll is participating in this year's Brain Awareness Week by presenting a BrainMinders program to the Kindergarten students at Diboll Primary School BrainMinders is an educational program developed by Pilot International designed to teach children how to protect their brain and how to prevent brain injuries. The program includes a flipchart, storybook for presentations, a 16 page coloring book, information for parents and an individual certificate for each student1 The program ends with a question and answer session. Helping with the presentations were Pilots Sue Beaty, Johnnye Devereaux, Vivian Holt and Geneva Ard. Plans are to present the BrainMinders program to Katherine Sage Temple Child Day Care Center and to Faith Family Christian School.

Every fifteen seconds, someone in the USA Incurs a brain injury. Brain trauma is now the leading cause of death among children. The BrainMinders has become a unique international partnership of more than 1,500 organizations. These organizations Include scientific institutions, patient advocacy groups, universities, government agencies, service groups, and K-12 schools. Individual partners bring to Brain Awareness Week their own perspectives and messages about the brain and a concern for early childhood development.
