THIRTY YEAR AGO THIS WEEK


EARTH STATION- Cablecom General workmen are busy erecting a big dish antenna which will receive signals for the new Home Box Office service that Cablecom will begin offering later this month. The earth station antenna receives HBO transmission from New York City via RCA SATCOM satellite from 22,300 miles in space. HBO plans to initiate network service of music, sports, current movies and special events programming. The service will be available to subscribers of Cablecom and TV Cable of Diboll at an additional charge and will feature programming without the usual commercial interruptions. HBO, subsidiary of TIME, Inc. operates in more than 500 communities in 47 states with more than 1 million subscribers. The earth station here is one of more than 500 nationwide which track the satellite which is in a stationary orbit.
