Diboll Day back on track

Russell Payne Sports Editor

Now that Ike has moved away from the area and the mess has been picked up it is time for everyone to regroup and return to some sort of relative normalcy.

That includes the Diboll Day 2008 activities that have been canceled, rescheduled, moved around and then moved again over the last week. Now the schedule is set and hopefully the tropics are settled as it is just a little over a week from the big day.

Now with the schedule once hopefully once and for all set everything should be back on track and everyone can be assured there is plenty to do when it comes to Diboll Day.

This weekend there will be some major activities from bingo and poker to a very full day of golf.

Groups 1 and 2 will be working together this Friday evening at the civic center when they host a combined Texas Hold'em event with a 6:30 p.m. start time.

Saturday will be a fun filled day on the links with all three groups joining forces for one day and night of golf. The day's events will kickoff with a 8:30 a.m. start time and the evenings activities will get started at dark over. at Neches Pines.

The cost will be $50 per players, or $40 for senior citizens for the daytime event, and there will be mulligans available for $10. Prizes will be awarded to the first - third place teams, with awards for closest to hole and longest drive.

Sponsorships are still available by calling Gary Martel at 829-6108.

The night time event will also cost $50 per player and includes cart, refreshments, night golf balls and glow sticks.

Group 3 will also be sponsoring some bingo opportunities with a kids bingo at 1 p.m. Saturday and a cash bingo set for 6:30 p.m. at the civic center.

Now do not forget the food with so many opportunities to eat some good cooking around Diboll these days.

As usual Group 1 is hosting the Cornbread Whistle and it is open everyday at the Temple corporate cafeteria and Group 3 will host this week's luncheon on Thursday with 11:30 a.m. as the start time for both.

There are many activities still on the horizon and with over a week before the event even gets here, so come on out and support the cause and help make Diboll Day 2008 a roaring success.
