Sam Rayburn Fishing Report Sam Rayburn is at 157.99 ft and starting to fall, the water temperature has been around 74 degrees. The water is clear to around 2 ft. Well, just as you think the water is stabilizing they started dropping it again. It's going down like a rock. Why you ask? They are trying to push the salt out of the river that hurricane Ike pushed in. The lake is around the 6.40ft low and looks like by the weekend it will be close to 7 ft low, if things don't change. You need to be extra careful as you navigate around the lake. There are numerous humps and ridges that are just under the surface thru out the lake. There are also more stumps that are showing up everywhere. Don't forget the city of Warsaw; just east of the long cut; if you're running on this end because it's just under the surface. Now, for the fishing on "Big Sam". The fish were just starting to set up on a pattern when the lake level started dropping again. The morning bite has been the best and then it just drops off. One day they will hit a frog and the next day you can't buy a bite on it. We have been wacky worming the grass edges and lily pads to pickup a few bites. The fish do not want to chase anything. You have to slow way down and soak the plastics. The Texas and Carolina Rigs have been picking up a few good fish around the deeper edges and offshore structure. The colors of plastic I've been using are darker colors early and then going to a lighter color as the sun comes up. Red Bug, Plum, Plum-Apple, Black-Berry, Black- Blue and Watermelon Red are some of my picks. The Crappie has picked up over the brush piles with some good size slabs being caught on live bait. I look for the crappie to get better with the cooler weather coming in. We are looking to add a 22 ft pontoon boat in the next few weeks that will be used on the larger Crappie trips. We may also be doing tours or renting the pontoon with a captain to do the driving. It will be based out of Jackson Hill Marina so look for more updates. The Cat fish have picked up some this week around the structure in about 12 to 18 ft. If you haven't heard about The Bass Class on the water check it out on the website and give me a call. Come on down and learn some nifty little tricks that will put you in the front of the pack. Big D Outdoors is the place to look for your new or used boat. Bass Cat will have a new 21 ft boat out next year. If you're looking for a good used boat go down and check out the used boats in D. J's lot. I know there is a good 05. 929 Nitro that still has warranty left on the engine. So, what are you waiting for? If you need some service work get on down there and let them take care of it. So give them a call 409-769-3700. God Bless Lynn Atkinson srayburn@rayburncountry.com www.rayburncountry.com Home 936-897-3400 Cell 979-220-0251 |
