T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library News
      Extra! Extra! Read all about it! T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library is moving into its new home. On Thursday, Nov. 13, movers will come and pack up the shelves that we are taking back with us so they can be re-done and in place for the next week. If you are going to need books while we are closed it would be a good idea to check them out before Nov. 13.

     Diboll's Christian Outreach will dedicate its new home, the Temple House, 411 S. Hines St., from 3:30-5:30 pm. Tuesday, Nov. 11. The house, shown as it was several years ago and donated by the Temple family to the group, provides much more space and a cheerier atmosphere for the weekly work of the organization. The public is invited.

Diboll Alumni raise scholarship funds
      More than 100 Diboll High School alumni and their guests gathered at the Lottie and Arthur Temple Civic Center for the 2008 Diboll Day "All Years Reunion." The event raised $637 for the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Members of the Classes of 1952-99 enjoyed visiting and dancing to the music of DJ Craig Standley. The association thanks Butch Parish for providing security.

      Beamon had to have X-rays done and thank goodness for Ed Mount who was the valet. Ed Mount is retired from Foundries and he was busy with a big smile. Another day we were at the doctor's office at the hospital and visited with Tommy Wells and Speedy Marze who were busy parking cars for folks. They too are retired from Texas Foundries.

News From The Round Table At Pouland's
      Tonya Caughman stopped by on one of her many commutes from Shepherd to her work at Lufkin Rubber & Gasket, a 140-mile round trip every day. Daughter Shelby, 17, a junior at Shepherd High School, needed a new halter for her show cow. Her "little" brother Tyler is a 6-foot, 2-inch freshman at SHS. Both are in FFA. Tonya's husband, Scott, works for the Mammoet Co. in Rosharon.

All Around Lufkin
      Christy Roach, former employee with the Diboll Free Press, and husband Oscar's grandson Carsyn Roach is in kindergarten at Slack. He is doing so good after his two surgeries on his heart. His brother Weston Roach is 3. Jennifer and Chad Roach are their parents. Jennifer teaches at Kurth and Chad is with LISD in the Transportation Department.

      You're reading this after election day yet I'm writing it beforehand (Tuesday is such an awkward day) so the sensible thing to do is ignore it. But the election is much on my mind.       Election campaigns always provide opportunities for social scientists to examine the behaviors behind voting so, presumably, one day we'll all just fill out questionnaires and, based on our lifestyles, we'll know who the next president will be. Elections will become redundant.

      Dolph Briscoe survived an unusually strong challenge from Republican Henry Grover on Nov. 7, 1972, but the 6-percent showing by the Raza Unida candidate made the Democrat the first Texas governor in 78 years elected without a clear majority of the votes.

Diboll Junior High students collecting pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House
      The Diboll Jr. High Science Classes are saving the pull tabs from aluminum cans and donating them to the Ronald McDonald House in Houston. The Ronald McDonald House recycles them and uses the money to help provide a home away from home for families with sick children.
