James Baldwin

Funeral services for James "J.B." Baldwin, 90, of Zavalla were held Friday, Oct. 31, 2008 in the Ora Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Rose officiating. Interment followed in the Shofner Cemetery under the direction of Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home.

He was born July 26, 1918, in Charleston, W.V., to the late Merel (Browning) and Clyde W. Baldwin, and died Tuesday, Oct. 28, at his residence.

He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a plant engineer at Houston Lighting and Power for 44 years, and was a 60-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers. He was a longtime member of the Ora Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Kathleen Baldwin of Zavalla; son, James Baldwin Jr. of Houston; and granddaughter, Amanda Kathleen Baldwin of Houston.

Pallbearers will be Benny Brashear, A.J. Ott, James Spencer, John McGinty, Fred Phillips and Stan Ott.

Honorary pallbearers were the men of the Ora Missionary Baptist Church family.
