      ONE YEAR AGO In a bi-district matchup between two offensive machines, the Diboll Lumberjacks lose to the Palestine-Westwood Panthers for the Class 3A Division II Championship at Abe Martin Stadium in Lufkin 65-59. The two teams combined for over 1,600 yards of offense and 124 points.

THIRTY YEARS AGO THIS WEEK
     Diboll Police Chief Dewey Wolf and dispatcher Aline Johnson monitor readouts on the department's new high speed teletype system. The machine is linked to computers in Washington and Austin to give the police department here the latest crime information in addition to routine identification and driving record printouts on people stopped by the Diboll Police Department. Wolf says the computer has already helped Diboll police put one North Carolina man in jail and has turned up two false license plate numbers on routine traffic violations. Roy Bean before his "Law West of the Pecos" days
      Roy Bean inherited a California saloon on or about Nov. 23, 1852, after the murder of his oldest brother Joshua. The legendary "Law West of the Pecos" did not just drop out of the sky into Lone Star folklore. For the better part of 40 years, he knocked around the West sponging off his brothers and blowing every chance at success.
