J. C. "Jake" Malnar

Services for J. C. "Jake" Malnar, 85, of Lufkin were held Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, in the First Apostolic Church, with Bro. Paul Mettlen officiating. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park under the direction of Gipson Funeral Home.

He was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Dayton, the son of the late Allie (Jacob) and Joseph Malnar. He died Monday, Nov. 10, in a local hospital.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather. He worked for Angelina County Lumber Co. for more than 22 years, and then retired from Lufkin lndustries, following more than 22 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being with his family.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, serving as a medic for German prisoners at Ft. Knox, Ky. He was a member of First Apostolic Church of Burke.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruby Malnar of Lufkin; sons and daughters-inlaw, Marvin and Sylvia Malnar of Lufkin, Roy and Jackie Malnar of Lufkin; John and Linda Malnar of Nacogdoches and Bill and Kim Malnar of Lufkin; son, Mitchell Malnar of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Charles Ballard of Lufkin; 18 grandchildren; 26 greatgrandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother and sister-inlaw, Harold and Maxine Malnar of Lufkin; brother, Bob Malnar of Lufkin; sister, Mary Lou Sahr of Pasadena; sisters and brothers in-law, Betty and Pete Booth of Liberty and Doris Marie and Curtis Thompson of Tyler; and a number of, nieces, nephews, other family members and lots of friends.

Pallbearers were Zachary Malnar, Timothy Malnar, Jason Ballard, Paul Malnar, Chase Ballard, Matt Ballard, Justin Malnar and Cody Malnar.
