There were a large number of parents, fans and faculty in attendance last week to honor the athletes at Diboll High that competed in Fall sports. Next week the Diboll Free Press will have photos and recognize all of these young men and women. The Diboll Lumber Jacks suffered their first loss of the season last weeke as they fell to New Waverly on the road.

The Jacks just were not able to get their game going and after a devastating first period of play Diboll trailed 31-4, in the Jacks most futile single period of the year.

The boys in red and white hung in there as best they could, actually holding New Waverly to 30 mores the remainder of the game.

The opening period was just to much to overcome though and the locals lost 61-37.

Diboll's loss put the squad qt 7-1 on the season. They would come away better as the week progressed by defeating Brookeland for the second time this season in the consolation side of the Tatum Tournament bracket.

The Jacks unfortunately, lost their first contest of the tourney to Henderson 62-47, a team which Diboll defeated in their season opener.

They rebounded from that loss by defeating San Augustine, Kilgore, Wasko and finally Brookeland in the final.

Cornelius Plok and Trey Loche both put on impressive showings to lead the Lumberjacks throughout the contest. Both young men were named to the All Tournament team for their play.

The Jacks fell in Livingston Monday, with a 61-53 loss to the Lions.

The team now 11-2 will be in action at the 2008 Lufkin Polk Invitational next week.

Action will be Dec. 29-31 and the Jacks first round opponent will be the No. 7 team in Texas amongst small private schools in Bryan St. Joseph.

Action will start up at 2pm Monday.
