LEO WARDEN

Leo Warden, 89, of Lufkin, was born January 16, 1918, in Baxterville, Mississippi, the son of the late Georganna (Smith) and James Joseph Warden. He passed away Monday, December 24, 2007, in a local hospital.

Mr. Warden was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Although born in Mississippi, he had been a resident of Lufkin since 1980. He retired from Local #923 in Texas City, where he worked as a carpenter. Mr. Warden was a member and Deacon of Herty Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Roberta Warden of Lufkin; daughter and son-inlaw, Evelyn and Bobby Lamar of Santa Fe; daughter, Cathryn Hill of Goodrich; grandchildren, Dwayne Thomas Hill and wife Marilou of Stafford, Virginia and Greg Hill and wife Melanie of Lufkin; 7 greatgranddaughters; brother, Ottis Warden of La Marque; sister, Gracie Milburn of Mobile, Alabama; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Pallbearers were Joel Newman, Bubba Loggins, Greg Hill, Howard Hartnett, Charles Ivins, Leo Youngblood, Hershel Shoemaker and Dwayne Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Kamp, Billy Weaver, John Permenter, Jack Modisette, H. P. Collins, David Johnson, Buster Nicholas, Jackie Havard, Mike Harnett and Roy Anderson.

Flowers or contributions to the American Heart Association, 5604 Old Bullard Road, Suite 106, Tyler, Texas 75703 are acceptable. Services for Mr. Warden were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Roy Stephens, Jr officiating. Interment was in the Garden of Memories. Memorial Park.
