Late game comeback gives Jacks 20-3A opener

Just out of school and awaiting the arrival of Santa the Diboll Lumberjacks set their sights on an early Christmas gift welcoming the Rusk Eagles to town.

This marked the opening game of District 20- 3A play for both units.

Lumberjack standout J.J. Hayes led the way in the scoring attack putting up 24 points. Hayes scored just seven first half points, shooting light's out in the second half he led the way to a come from behind victory with 17.

The Lumberjacks trailed by as many as eight points in the third period of play. After several lead changes throughout the contest the boys from Diboll took a big 53-52 lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the affair.

Joining in the big come from behind effort were Ketaraus Stanton with 11 points, Cornelius Polk with eight, Christian Lovelady with six, Antonio Johnson with five and Alex Castillo.

The victory gives Coach Brian Kruk and company an important opening win in district competition, and an overall record of 7-5 at the halfway mark of the season.

After a quick stop off in Lufkin for the annual holiday tourney it is off to Center for an important district match with the Roughriders.
