JOHNNY EDWARD GALLAGHER

TRYON, NC -- Johnny Edward Gallagher, 68, of Indian Creek Lane, Tryon, NC died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, SC.

Born in Winnsboro, TX, he was the son of the late Homer Hill and Irlee Henry Gallagher. Mr. Gallahger was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy having served two terms in Vietnam. He worked in the Charleston Naval Ship Yard for 15 years. Mr. Gallagher was a member of the American Legion Post #250 in Tryon, NC.

Surviving is his wife, JoAnn Norene Medley Gallagher. One son, Earl Raymond Gallagher of Charleston, SC. Two daughters, Beverly Lee Sabo of Charleston, SC, and Rebecca Kay Butler of Xenia, OH. One step-son, Frank Walker of Tryon, NC. Two step-daughters, Paulette Walker of Goose Creek, SC, and Dawn Thomas of Ladson, SC; three sisters, Virginia Smith of Center, TX, Zelda Sparks of Richardson, TX and Betty Miller of Carthage, TX. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 3 step- grandchildren, 4 greatgrandchildren and 1 step-great granddaughter.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2008 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC with Dr. Robert K. Barrows, Jr. officiating.

Burial followed at 2:00 p.m. in the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC with military rites by the Buncombe County Council Memorial Team.
