Jim and Doris Harkness attended the East-West Shrine Game in Houston. Jim had his six-month check up at M. D. Anderson the day before and was given a clean report.

Michelle Green, Health Center Director of Planned Parenthood, gave me a list of those from Houston that were at the Business after Five: Peter Durkin, President & CEO; Melaney Linton, COO; Rebecca White, Senior VP - Community Services and Pam Garrett, VP Administrative Services. The Donor Recognition Wall in the Training Room was impressive.

Packed houses turned out in San Augustine on a Friday and Saturday night this month for a play based on Bob and Doris Bowman's awardwinning book, "The Mystery of Lady Bountiful." The play, written by Patti Murr, deals with the life of Sabine County timber baroness

Lillian Knox, who was charged in 1922 with the murder of her husband,

Hiram Knox. Mrs. Knox eventually died in Illinois and was buried in a pauper's grave. Angelina County connections to the Knox story include the Temple family, which bought the Knox sawmill and lands, and Lufkin attorney Chester Collins, who was Mrs. Knox's lawyer. For his services, Mrs. Knox gave Collins the lumber for a home he built on North Raguet Street in Lufkin. The house has a historical marker telling the story.

The "Mystery of Lady Bountiful" play will be performed March 8 in Hemphill. Doris and Bob saw Bettie and Marvin Ivie at the play.

The Gabby Girls and Bettie Powell asked me to join them for lunch at Cheddars last week. The group was: Carolyn Staus, Patsy Nicholson, Jane Roland, Cindi Lago, Sarah Page, Laverne Parsons, Dianne Tate, Lorene Byrnes, Jean Mizell, Dixie Hunt and Bettie Powell. Those not attending but in the group that meet usually once a week were: Sarah Austin, Joyce West, Jo Ann Scarborough, Frances Kittrell, Edna Killion, Virginia Redd, Angelyn Bassinger, Janis Tucker and Judy Winger. The Gabby Girls have shirts alike that they had made at Grizzley's with their names on them. They were organized about 6 years ago and started out as neighbors in the Coston School area. It was a fun lunch with them.

Congratulations to Tony Moline and the Angelina Beautiful/Clean who received the President's Circle Recognition from Keep America Beautiful for the 5 th year in a row. There are many affiliates within Keep America Beautiful that do not receive this recognition. An organization must work and prove itself worth of receiving this recognition.

Cathy and Meb Todd are the proud grandparents of a GIRL, Isabella Rose Todd, born December 20 to Tricia and Christopher Todd who have recently moved to Conroe where Christopher is working for Lincoln Lumber Company. Isabella's two-year-old brother is Jackson. This is the first girl in the Todd family since 1845. Jackson is ready for the family to find a house. The apartment is hard on him when he wants to be "ousside". He sits for hours on their balcony and yells "hi" and "bye" to all passerbyers. Meb misses having coffee with Jackson every morning.

Jeanette and Joe Davis hosted Christmas Eve at their home for their children, Brenda Sullivan, Linda Teer and Bubba Davis, and their families. Jeanette is getting stronger each day.

Elizabeth is a graduate of Perkins School of Theology at SMU. She lives in Friendswood, where she continues to write and teach. Jody and Jimmy Tinkle have informed me that when Ernest and I visited Memphis, Tenn. we ate at the wrong barbeque place. They gave me two choices and we chose Corky's. Their favorite is the Neely's Bar B-Que, which will be featured on the food channel 58 on February 2 at either 10 a.m. or noon. The show is entitled "Down Home with the Neelys" and will air for six episodes. Their specialties are Cornish hens and creamed collard greens. Bobby and Jamie Deen, sons of Paula Deen, featured the Neely's Bar-B-Que Nashville location on their show "Road Tasted." Robbie Warren had to tell me where the food channel was. Jimmy Tinkle told me that the way the pulled pork sandwiches are served in Memphis is with coleslaw ON them.

Don Wier had knee replacement surgery and feels fine.

Ina Jane Thames is on vacation from her job teaching English in a college in China. She leaves February 14 to return to China.

Wanda Leary bought Joy and Charles Fredrick's home on Innisbrook. She moved to Lufkin in 1999 and was on Winged Foot. She always wanted a home on the golf course so now she is. Her first cousin is Dale Grantham in Diboll.

Joy and Charles Fredrick are settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado near their sons Jim and Lee Fredrick and their families.

The Angelina Arts Alliance presented its 47th major event "The Piano Men" starring Jim Witter. It was a tribute to the music of the 70s. Max Alvis had dates with pretty girls, Elisabeth Alvis, Alli Bartlett, and Kelly Haney. There were many in the audience that could relate to the music. There were some "rowdy" people enjoying the music behind us and I will not name them but some attending were: John and Martha Bates, Robert and Sheila Telford, Sarah Jane Thames, Ina Jane Thames, Mary Anne Clement with Jake and Sarah (from Austin), Jule and Curt Fenley, Ryan and Ellen Sorrell, Billy and Flora O'Quinn, Wayne and Lisa Haglund, Joan Duncan, Harry Stafford, Don and Nancy Reily, Dot Brookshire, Chubby Slack, Wyatt and Sandra Leinart, Jane and Rick Ainsworth, Howard Daniel, Jennie Caton, Dorris Collmorgen, Richard Youngblood, David Lawson, Carole Carrell, Betty and Don Lawrence, Sarah Austin, Jimmy and Krista Cloonan, Doris Johnson, Barbara and Tommy Thompson, Jesse and Suzanne Bradford, Marian Bradford, Rocky and Terri Thigpen, James and Charlotte Wagstaff, J. C. and Deloris Burch, Mary Martha Henderson, Sharon Henderson, Brigettee Henderson, Marie Carnes, Pat Brown, Ruth Brittain Chinn, Cyndi and Steve Kullback, Sylvia Ford, Verna Griffith, Don and Robbie Wier, Mary Ann Bryson, Pat and Chuck Royston, Dennis and Joan Rankin, Jetta Westerholm, Lou Ray Berry, John and Lynette Monk, George and Laura Thannisch, Bob and Marguerite Garrett, Peggilu Watkins, Norma and Joe Pearson, Jimmy Tinkle, Genie and Bob Flournoy, Conni and Harold Estes, Ladeen and Jim Pluss, Glenda and Roy Spradley, Barbara Holmes, Thelma Bryant, Anna Beth Connell, Billie Marie York, Virginia and Bob Knibb, Lisa and Sal Soto, Tenney and Cile Braden, Wanda Leary, David and Fran Glenn, Paul and Grace Perez, Wilma Parrott, Woodie Hicks, Ann and Tara Watson, Angela and Marshall Watson, (from Midland), Phil and Sue Terry. A fun part of the show was when they played TV show theme songs from the 70's like Beverly Hillbillies, Mash, Brady Bunch, All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Jeffersons, Gilligan's Island, Green Acres and The Adams Family. I forgot how good TV was in the 70's. In the background was a screen that featured things that happened in that decade. When they sang, "Candle in the Wind" they showed some that had passed away in the 70s like Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Betty Grable, Bing Crosby, Ed Sullivan, Charlie Chaplin, and Janis Joplin. Woodie Hicks said the music reminded her of music coming from her children, Edward and Kendall's, rooms. Ellen Sorrell said that today the kids have i-pods and earpieces, and you cannot hear what they are hearing. Rick Schiller and board, this group is a keeper if you want to ask them again it would be fine with me.

Let me hear your news. Janice Ann email: roweja@suddenlink.net
