Sheila's Potpourri Wednesday was a wild day for me and just as I had gotten home from buying groceries and mailing a package, while trying to get my clothes changed and throw some lunch on the table, the phone rang. The first words out of my son's mouth were "Lois, you are gonna have to be careful with what you write.." He had nicknamed me Lois Lane years ago when I began writing for the Free Press. Those who are old enough will remember Superman's girlfriend was the reporter Lois Lane. It seems the Free Press has gone world wide ... and Randy clicked onto the Kansas City Barbecue Society web page and lo and behold! There was my column telling about Randy and Eileen attending the banquet last weekend. I need to catch up with all this modern technology since I'm yet unable to understand how people's voices go through telephone wires. You know for sure I'm no inventor. Anyway Randy had such a great time visiting with friends and meeting new folks, he has declared if possible they will be going to next year's banquet. Congratulations! Brianna Kay Willis was born January 17 to Bro. Stephen and Kathy Willis. Billy and Carolyn Phillips and Ty and Melva Willis are the happy grandparents. What a pleasant surprise to see Fern Nerren in the store after she had spent a week in the hospital. Fern is one of my special friends with a smile always on her face. Reba and Elena Clark and I had such a great visit when I stopped by. Elena declared they had not been out of the house for several days and let my 'cousin Frank Clark do the errands since it has been so cold. I also stopped by Dr. Terry Wells' office early arid got to see Lulla Adams, Frances Felts and Joyce Edwards who work there. Lulla is sort of like Beamon; she has retired but does substitute work. That sometimes turns into a full time.. job.. , . . . Karla, Chris, Cade, Cole and Ella Carroll braved snow and all that cold Stuff to drive from Colorado Springs to spend the Christmas holidays with the Adams family. Brent, Angel and Caitlyn Adams came from Tyler to be part of the excitement during the holidays. The Carroll's gave Lulla and Bob the neatest book which is a sophisticated form of a scrapbook. Karla made it using many pictures of the grand young'uns and that is how it should be. She, of course, did it on the computer and I shudder to think of the patience it would take for me to accomplish such an undertaking. If almost undid me way back when the late Alsie B. Smith was teaching us to type on those old manual typewriters. Beamon was doing errands and chatted with Tommy Havard who reported that he and Beverly have moved into their new house across the pasture in front of us. He also visited with Ray and Martha Carswell. Billy Page said he and Vivian are happy to be home after he had surgery at M.D. Anderson. He said that she did real well driving him out of Houston and made all the proper turns, stops and managed to hit every hole between here and there. I'd heard that complaint from Beamon after he had surgery a while back down in the big city. Joyce Webb and Ineda LeSassier were in the doctor's waiting room at the same time. At this time of year there's always someone you know coming or going. Polly White declared she, Pete and Tammy were all well for a change. It had been some time since I had seen Pam English Hooton. Daughter, Jackie Hooton is interested in getting into nursing school program and if you have the stamina for that career, it is a good and needed one. I thought we had a late finish to Christmas but Tommie Lowery was in Dallas with Shana, Ernest, Morgan and Grant DePaoli where she met her sister Karen Bayer. Karen, Karl, Catherine and Elizabeth had spent the holidays in Montana. Karen and the twins came from Austin for the sharing of gifts and fun before Catherine and Elizabeth returned to college classes. |
