Paul Douglas (Doug) Smithheart

Paul Douglas (Doug) Smith heart, 55, of Lufkin, was born November 11, 1952, in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Delber Jean (Goodwin) and Paul Smithheart. He passed away Monday, February 4, 2008, in a local hospital.

Doug was reitred, and was previously employed with Applied Industrial Technologies with industrial sales. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Doug was an avid Astros fan, and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. His quick wit and comical sense of humor, and his ability to always make people laugh, will be missed by all those who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Smithheart of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Jody Smithheart of The Woodlands; grandson, Craig Alan Smithheart of The Woodlands; step-grandson, Issac Grant Crager of The Woodlands; brother, Bobby Joe Smithheart of Lufkin; sisters and brothers-inlaw, Linda and Bucky McDaniel of Pollok and Natalie and David Fulmer of Missouri City; sistersin law, Sandra Ortiz and husband Roy of Lufkin and Karl Chupp and husband Brinn of Brazoria; mother-in-law, Melva McClendon of Lufkin; father-inlaw, Bobby McClendon of Lufkin; nieces, Shelli Smithheart, Christy Hilton and husband Garrett; nieces, Lauren and Kayleigh Fulmer and nephew, Zachary Fulmer; niece, Lisa Murphy and husband Sean; nephews, Scott McDaniel and wife Lori; Zachary Fulmer, Lance Ortiz and wife D'Ann, and Blake Oritz; 2 great-nephews; and 1 greatniece.

Pallbearers were Lance Ortiz, Scott McDaniel, Blake Ortiz, Sean Murphy, Donald Allen, Gene Burkett, Mike Burkett and Garrett Hilton.

Services for Doug were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
