Local woman awarded medal

RUSSELL
Air Force Airman First Class Amanda K. Russell has been awarded the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

The Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have deployed overseas on military expeditions to serve in the Global War on Terrorism operations on or after Sept. 11, 2001, and to a future date to be determined by the Secretary of Defense. Initial award of the expeditionary medal is limited to personnel deployed abroad in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The area of eligibility encompasses the U.S. Central Command area (less the lower Horn of Africa), the Middle East, eastern Turkey, the Philippines, Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, and all air spaces above the land and adjacent water areas.

Russell, a customer service technician with two years of military service, is regularly assigned to the 2nd Logistics Readiness Squadron, Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, La.

She is the daughter of Kelly and Janice Russell of Fenley Flat Road, and granddaughter of Nellie Garcia of Kay Drive, all of Pollok, Texas.

The airman is a 2005 graduate of Lufkin High School, Texas.
