Sheila's Potpourri So many times we older citizens think that manners have gone by the waysid4ut anytime I'm out in public, I find this belief is untrue. Younger folks still hold doors open. For older folks and men both young and older either hold doors open or step back for a woman to enter. I certainly appreciate this gesture of respect. Jerry LaSalle was just such a gentleman when I was coming out of Huntington State Bank one morning. Even though we were in school at the same time, I rarely see him. Candye Nail has been suffering from health problems as have too many folks this winter. Had not seen Donald Durham in several years and Dell Morehead and I had a few minutes to chat. Dell and her sister Neil were 'the Forrest" twins when we were all in high school. They also have siblings James Owen Forrest, Charles Forrest, Linda Forrest Pinner and the late Robert Forrest. Surely other people get somebody on their minds and it drives them crazy until you check on them? Such was the way I was about Frankie and Doyle Cummins who live in Bald Hill. Talked to both of them and Frankie has colon cancer and Doyle has numerous health problems. Doyle can move around carefully and still talks as much as I do but bath would appreciate your prayers. A person can never have too many prayers sent "in care" of themselves. We all have to solicit prayers some time and that is one kind of solicitation that is not against the law. Joyce Knott and I were vying for beauty for a day and she was telling us about lightning zapping her house with lots of damage and then burglars stopped by for a handout. In spite of it all Joyce has retained her sense of humor. She is a delightful lady. Leslie Campbell and Charlene Lankford are grandmothers to the Lankford young 'uns and both are faithful when it comes to cheering the kids on at their ball games. Leslie conceded Charlene winner, to the most games in one day. Leslie had six games but Charlene had seven to attend for Blaire, Carly, Conner and Jackson Lankford. That is a lot of games. Grandfather Ted Lankford had to work that Saturday since it is the wonderful tax preparation season. Randy meets the most interesting people, especially when he fires up the cookers. He was cooking Saturday morning and had a visitor who passed by often but just had not caught him when he was cooking at home. The guy lived past Randy and Eileen in a new addition which has begun since the first time we visited them after their move to 1t. Juliet. He asked Randy about cooking for a film: Featuring bluegrass (music) and barbecue. Randy turned him toward John who heads up the Allegro business but knows that he also has a schedule to work around. Between working, at the sound company, his own speaker repair business and cooking on the barbecue circuit, he and Eileen have little spare time. The neighbor was impressed with the cooking "rig" and probably would have liked an invitation to eat. When you are around the cookers, there are some good smells coming forth. At the shop Randy not only does his work but comes with the title of chief -cook but not bottle washer. You have all heard the saying of "chief cook and bottle washer". The main offices and shop of Claire Sound Company are in Pennsylvania and often some of those employees are sent to Nashville for one reason or another. Each time some of them come down, Randy prepares a meal for them and those employees in his shop. He plans the menu, buys the food to cook and then does the cooking. He has the best group of "bottle washers" you could hope to find. The guys help get the barbecue Or whatever is on the menu from the truck, they set up the "dining room" and after the meal, they clean up and get all back into order including helping Randy get his stuff back in the truck. Heretofore, only guys have come down from up North for meetings and meals but this week a lady employee is coming and has asked for Randy's barbecue. The others have all gone north and bragged about the food so much she wants a sample. The Nashville shop folks are just excited because they get to eat. I'm seriously thinking about moving over there just to be the reservations clerk for Randy; I know I can hold that pencil to fill in dates for special meals, It might be best if I wait' until our freezer gets empty and I can beg for a refill of the fantastic beef, pork, ribs and sausage. Certainly I'm a selfish mom when it comes to a san's good cooking! |
