T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library News Progress, progress! That is what you will see happening when you visit the Library. Lots of red dirt has been put in to build the foundation for the new addition to the building that will begin soon. A portion of the new parking lot has been paved and opened for staff and overflow parking. Workmen are steadily working on the remainder of the parking lot and hopefully it will be finished soon. Due to the concrete trucks and heavy equipment being used to finish the parking lot, caution should be used at all times when visiting the Library. It may not be very convenient to get to the library at this time but it will be worth the trouble and we are still here for you. If you have questions or if we can help make your visit go more smoothly please give us a call at 829-5497. President's Day, February 18, is the common name for the federal holiday officially designated as George Washington's birthday, the first president of the United States. The holiday was implemented by the federal government in 1880. In the beginning this first federal holiday to honor an American citizen was held on Washington's actual birthday, February 22. Then on January 1, 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act shifted the holiday to the third Monday in February. (Source: Wikipedia The Free Encyclopedia) Join the T.L.L. Every year, Texas families leave nearly $1 billion in potential tax credits in the hands of the federal government due to lack of knowledge about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). This year, the Texas Legal Services Center is providing a user-friendly resource for all Texas families who want to make sure they claim their share. A new website sponsored by the Texas Legal Services Center, www.icanefile.org, will automatically calculate and file for all potential tax credits, including the EITC, child tax credit, and others. Taxpayers who earn less than $50,000 a year are eligible to use the site free of charge and the site has been authorized by the IRS for safe and effective self-help tax preparation. The staff of the library would like to thank the following people for their generous donations. For books and audio books: Steve Paul and Nelda Porter. Nelda and Bobby Porter in memory of Molly Rose Porter and Donald Bonham II gave memorial gifts of books.
