Diboll hosts area powerlifters
Ladies awarded first, third place wins in several classes; young men also place across the board in several different weight categories

+ Last Thursday Diboll High School welcomed powerlifting teams from all over the area for the Diboll Powerlifting Meet. Schools in attendance for the event were Lufkin, Beaumont Ozen, Center, Huntington, Livingston, Shelbyville, Carthage, Willis, Tatum and of course Diboll.

On the ladies side of things Diboll was able to take home a third place finish in the overall team standings.

Leading the way for the Lady Jack's squad was Tremica Had not in the 198-lbs. division, and Tyra Stewart in the Super Heavyweight competition. Each lady took home the first place medal in their category.

Also placing for the Lady Jacks was, Jasmine Lewis in the 148 lbs. division,

while Cynthia Cavazos followed her with a fourth place finish.

In the 198 lbs. Category it was a sweep of the top spots with Rosita Silva coming in second behind Hadnot.

On the Boy's Varsity side of things the Lumberjacks came in fourth place out of eight teams competing. Carthage took the top spot with Willis in second and Huntington in third.

Individually for the Lumberjacks it was a big day Jaime Palacio in the -132- lbs. Weight class. Palacio medal first in that category. Also taking top honors for Diboll was Ivan Meza in the 275-lbs. division.

Nick Smith came in ninth place in that division.

Other Lumberjacks garnering a placement in the meet were Ivan Alvarez and Kamran McCollum in the 148-lbs. Weight class. In the 198-lbs. division it was Nick Scott taking fourth place.

In the 220-lbs. division Raphael Villianueva garnered second place, with Caleb Stanford coming in seventh. Justin Havard finished sixth in the 242-lbs. division.

Finally Jonathon Coleman snagged a fifth place finish and out lifted all Super Heavyweights in the squats with a 535-lbs. lift.

The Diboll Powerlifting squad will be hitting the weights again in the Regional Meet this March. Boys participants are expected to be named Feb.
