Temple-Inland jobs reduction
30-40 positions affected

Temple-Inland announced that in response to continued slow market conditions, it will reduce its workforce at the Diboll Fiber Products facility. Over the next 30 days, 30 to 40 jobs will be affected.

Employees were notified Friday, Feb. 22, of the reduction. Those whose jobs are affected will receive severance packages.

"The workforce reduction at our fiberboard plant is the direct result of the depressed housing market, and not a reflection of the effort and commitment of our employees," said Jack C. Sweeny, Temple- Inland group vice president, Building Products. "The products we make at the fiberboard plant are heavily influenced by single family housing starts, which remain at the lowest rate since the 1980s."

Temple-Inland began its Diboll Fiber Products Operation in 1958. The operation produces wood based fiberboard sheathing and hardboard products for home and commercial construction. Diboll Fiber Products employs approximately 200 people.
