Dewey Wesley Holland

Dewey Wesley Holland, 85, of Huntington, was born February 14, 1923, in Manning, Angelina County, Texas, the son of the late (Erian) Wilson and Dewey Holland. He passed away on Friday, February 22, 2008, in a Lufkin hospital.

Mr. Holland was a retired educator and administrator. He was a former teacher at Stephen F. Austin State University and the Huntington I.S.D. He was also a former teacher and administrator for the Zavalla I.S.D. Mr. Holland served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He had been a resident of Huntington most of his life, and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Holland of Huntington; cousins, Kenneth and Elaine Holland of Kennard, Jo Holland of Nederland, Merlene Cowart of Huntington, Robert Poland, Marjorie McCullough and Keith Allred, all of Lufkin; close personal friend, Shelly Snell of Huntington; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding Mr. Holland in death were his parents and his first wife, Esther Holland.

Active and honorary pallbearers were his fellow local members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

Services for Mr. Holland were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Carl DuBose and Reverend Linwood Jacobs officiating. Interment followed in the Old Center Cemetery.
