The United Methodist Women are providing Easter Lilies to decorate the sanctuary Easter morning March 23rd. The forms to purchase the lilies to honor or in memory of loved ones are in the Narthex. We are in the process of revamping our prayer chain. These forms are located in the Narthex. Nothing we do in the church is more powerful than prayer. Everyone should consider being a part of this worthy program. We were happy to have Betty Watson in the morning worship. She is present when she can leave her husband alone. He is ill. And she was happy to tell me that her granddaughter, Ashlee will have twin boys. Ashlee is the daughter of Doyle and Rhonda Watson, now living in Kingwood, Texas. Ashlee and husband are working in Bryan after graduating from Texas A&M University. Chuck Zimmerman was back after his illness and Judy of Crosby the daughter of Billie and Leonard Billeck was in church worship Sunday morning. My granddaughter, Heather looks forward to Sheila's Potpourri to see if she has anything about her son Randy and the group, "Back Street Boys." She will drive miles to see them perform or see on T.V. Jubilee Church Today we live in the most uncertain times that many of us have ever seen. There seems to be no certain stability in life right now. Last week the headlines of this paper stated Temple-Inland Jobs Reduction, 30-40 positions effected. Every one in Diboll will be affected directly or indirectly by these layoffs. Even those who have a job that will never close, or be dissolved still may have a new supervisor next week due to a promotion. When that happens there is a whole "New Boss" to learn & how he or she wants things done. Lord, a firm and stable foundation of life sure would be nice. I am thankful that in all the instability that we see and experience today that God is sovereign and still in control of all things. One of the best examples in the Word about just how in control of everything God really is takes place while Jesus is headed for Mt. Calvary. Jesus and the 2 thieves are carrying their cross to the Mt of Crucifixion. As always there is a great crowd going along. Picture the soldiers keeping the people away from the prisoners, some still shouting for Jesus to be crucified, others shouting at the thieves that they are getting what they deserve, and then a few women who loved Jesus bewailed and lamented him, weeping as they followed. With all this going on, Luke 23:28-31, records a strange event. Jesus turns and speaks to the women following. I have read these verses several times and timed the reading to see how long it took Jesus to make this statement. It takes me about 30 seconds. What is the significance? A group of soldiers are marching condemned prisoners to their execution. The crowd is following and hollering as realized above. Suddenly Jesus just stops the whole precession for a short ministry to the ladies personally and to the rest of the crowd generally. There had to be a hush for him to be heard. There was always attention given to Him when Jesus spoke. The soldiers evidently just stood there doing nothing while Jesus ministered to those who were there. Folks, if Jesus was in complete control of the unruly circumstances of his own crucifixion, He is surely still in control of the troubles of today. If he could stop his own death march to minister to the ones there, He can sure stop the world for a moment of ministry to you in your day of trouble and uncertainty. If you need a stable foundation in an unstable world come worship with us at Jubilee Baptist Church. Jubilee Baptist Church is located on FM 1818 right at the city limit sign. We are a country church with a heart for ministry. If you do not have a church home Jubilee will welcome you to our worship services. If you have some trouble of life that is so big only God can help you with it, we invite you to Jubilee & we will ask the Father in Heaven to give you an answer. Sunday School is at 10 a.m. Worship is at 11 a.m. Mid-week worship is Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. We welcome you. |
