MOVING DAY

Crew members work to secure the former Kansas City Southern rail business car called Geraldyne to be transported by rail from Diboll to Union Station Kansas City in Kansas City, Mo., last week. Dean Levin donated the car to Union Station. Kansas City Southern is donating the loading and movement of the car. Union Station plans to use the car as an exhibit during the refurbishing process and after. Some have suggested that this car was used by Arthur Stilwell, the founder of Kansas City Southern, but no known documentary evidence supports such a connection. Geraldyne was assigned to Job Edson for more than 20 years. Edson was president of Kansas City Southern from 1905 to 1918 and from 1921 to 1927. Edson is credited with turning Kansas City Southern into an efficient 20th century railroad. The train reportedly had been stored at the Temple-Inland Diboll mill for many years, but how it got there and why could not be determined.
