Sam and Mary Griffin traded in their 2004 Honda for a new one in November. Sam called to tell me that he laughed when he read all that I had in my old Honda. He had left a CD in the player in the dash and was at Mercer Honda when they were selling his old trade car and they found sunglasses.

Tamesha Jumper called me that she met Sidney Howtz and wife Jo in Comfort traveling in their RV. They found out that Tamesha was from Lufkin and asked her if she knew James Hinson. She said no but she knew someone that would. I called Dry and James and told them that the Howtz had remembered playing golf with James. It is a small world.

Cile Braden went with Susan Ellison and Ginny Bowman to Guatemala as part of a faith-based medical mission called Refuge International based in Gilmer, TX. This was Susan's fifth trip. They started on Sunday morning 2/17 and a team composed of 8 doctors, 35 nurse practitioners, nursing students and lay people treated people who had come to the clinic located in San Raymundo, about an hour north of Guatemala City. This clinic is a very well equipped facility and has a good reputation. Every day the line was forming before they went to breakfast. Six of the doctors were surgeons who performed many surgeries each day including gall bladder removal, hysterectomies, and amputation of a gangrenous foot, and more. Susan and Cile were in the pharmacy and filled prescriptions, Ginny worked with a nurse practitioner and an interpreter seeing patients. The patients were most appreciative, and even though they did not always understand each other's language, they could communicate. They have many heart-warming memories to cherish from the week. They met an amazing group of dedicated people and were able to make a small difference each day. They worked half a day on Friday of that week, took inventory and traveled to Antigua, Guatemala. It was a lovely OLD city with cobblestone streets where they could walk everywhere from the hotel. Friday night they were treated to a wonderful dinner (by all the doctors) in a converted convent that now houses a 5 star restaurant and hotel. It was decorated for a wedding and must have had thousands of candles glowing everywhere.

Lawana Ray had her name drawn in the Brookshire Brothers Carnival Cruise Sweepstakes contest. I have been throwing those ends away!!!! Shame on me. Good things happen to good people. Lawana and Jerry will be able to pick the Carnival cruise they wish and it will be for a week. Lawana said that they have been remodeling their house since August and they need a vacation.

Jerome Lair, manager at the Brookshire's Fresh Market on Chestnut, was thrilled to have a customer's name drawn. This is the 6 th week of the 14 cruises to be given away, so we still can get our name in the drawings.

Connie Thompson has seven of her photographs in the hallway at Woodland Heights Medical Center. At the entrance on Gaslight Blvd, go right and they are down that hall. The hospital commissioned her for photos of East Texas. There are cowboys, a fall scene, spring scene, and several people performing their jobs in east Texas. Drop by and see them.

I tried to find the telephone number for the post office and I could have walked to the post office in the time I looked in the phone book under Government offices!!!!! It is not in the book. I called information, because I wanted to know when stamps were going up to 42 cents. The phone for the main post office is: 936.634.7749. Write this in the book under the "p"s. Stamps go up May 12. I bought some of the 41- cent Forever Stamps and I will be ready when they do go up. Probably will have to buy some one-cent stamps to go with the 41s that I have now.

I had White Out all on my arm and tried nail polish remover, alcohol and finally Goo Gone and it worked. Just a fun fact!!!

Monday, Ernest wanted me to work on our income tax info so I started and ran out of adding machine paper. I sent him to Story Wright for paper and while he was gone a limb at the Kenley's house across the street fell and hit the power line and we were without power. I felt that I was not meant to do the income tax stuff so I went over to Mary and Joe Byrd's to see if they where without power. James Thomas and Alberta Johnson along with the Byrds were in the dark. They sent me home to call Oncor to get the power restored. Margaret and Billy Mack Anderson were in the dark too. Minnie Jones was our lifesaver and in 45 minutes they were out in the rain getting the transformer repaired. Thanks Oncor!!! I got back on my "critical path" with new adding machine paper and Ernest is happy that the tax info is in the hands of Kevin McKay and Kathy Burris.

I am jealous. Patsy and Chuck Hines saw a hummingbird scout on Tuesday, March 4. I put my feeders out on Monday, since the weather has been so confusing. Let me hear when your birds arrive. I think the country birds come before the city birds.

Catch you around town. Janice Ann email: roweja@suddenlink.net
