JUDGENOT LESTYEBE JUDGED - unless we're talking tamales at right, from left, James Simms, Ryan Peterson of KTRE Radio, Matt Kuhl of KFox, Jery Mouse of Sunnyn 94.7, Diboll Mayor Bill Brown and Dee Scarborough. The three entrants presented seven recipes among them.
READY, SET, EAT! Contestants battled it out in a Tamale Eating Contest Saturday afternoon. At left, Joseph Horton, of Diboll, took home the $200 first prize and a pig trophey to mark the occasion after he chompped down 23 Tamales. Second place was a tie, but Jesse Maldonado, of Lufkin, made room for one more, for a total of 17 tamales. Josh Smith, of Lufkin, packed in 16 tamales and wasn't willing to try one more tie-breaker tamale.
