Sheila's Potpourri
News from Huntington

Vera Montgomery of Virginia and daughter Tawnya Dornak of Sugarland were visiting with their aunt Ruth Denman. Other visitors were Nancy Allen, Todd Swearingen, Onetta Roebuck, Peggy and Keith Swearingen and Colby Allen.

Barry Bruno was on vacation from Brookshire's but he had told Mike who is another sacker and carry out person to be sure mine and a half dozen others groceries were handled with great care. Not that Mr. Bruno is not good with other customers but I just wait for him to take my items to the car. Mike and I hit it off and talked a mile a minute and he did a great job with the grocery take out.

When Randy was still living at home I got real spoiled about my groceries getting sacked just right and put in my vehicle in a special way. I would miss that terribly if it were not for great people like Mr. Bruno and Mike. It does upset me to get home and the bread is flattened or the eggs are dripping out of the carton. Way back when Randy worked at Boots Grocery while he was in high school they would take fo1ks and their groceries home or just deliver to their house. Jack Green's mother and dad came every Friday morning to buy their food items for the week and Mrs. Green refused to let anybody but Randy drive them home if he happened to be at work. She declared he was a safe driver!

While I was at the store I visited with across the road neighbor Hannah Harvill and met Sue Havard. I had seen Sue come by our house and discovered she is married to C.J. Havard and they live around the curve from us. It is so easy to lose track of folks and just recently Randy and I had remembered when he and C.J. worked together at Boots Grocery.

Bro. Harold Collins and his son Bubba were shopping and Bubba recalled Randy from their dancing days when Randy had K-JAM and we had many dances in lots of places on Friday and Saturday nights. Those were the good old days!

Betty Ivy was also shopping and I asked about her husband Rex Ivy. He and I began our friendship in the first grade and were classmates through graduation. His parents were the late Banks and Dan Ivy and we all saw Mr. Ivy often. He worked for the county and drove a maintainer. With all the dirt roads the county kept up, he graded those rough tracks everyday and especially after rain. At least we did not have the vehicles on the roadways that we have now but they were still rough. Today if I chance to be on an unpaved stretch of dirt, in seconds I'm transported back to those long ago days of "rub board" trails. For the most part now we've substituted holes for the rub board.

If the weather cooperates which is a constant worry in East Texas, members of Highway Baptist Church should have a great BRUSH ARBOR MEETING. There will be old time gospel singing and 'some good preaching. You may bring your lawn chair if you desire, come as you are, or dress old fashioned. On Sunday evening at 6 p.m. Bro. Lamar Denby will the message and that is March 30. There will be a church wide pot luck supper immediately after the sermon.

Monday, March 31 at 7 p.m. Bro. Adrian Neal will preach. Tuesday, April 1 at 7 p.m. Bro. Keith Rose will, be preaching. You are invited.

Evidently the higher postage gets the worse service comes from the post office. After waiting for a couple of dresses to get here, I finally called about them. The lady at the company tracked them to Dallas and then it took them 13 days to get to our mailbox. Talk about tortoise express; I doubt at this time of year there is that much mail for it to be so slow. Yes, I realize there is an abundance of pieces of mail but still 13 days is ridiculous from Dallas to Huntington.
