Christene Burton

Funeral services for Christene Burton, 88, of Lufkin were held Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Carl DuBose and Elder Lynwood Jacobs officiating. Interment followed in the Old Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Burton was born March 15, 1920 in San Augustine, Texas to the late Addie (Marshall) and William A. DuBose, and died Thursday, March 20, 2008 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Burton had resided in Angelina County most of her life. She was an accomplished painter and loved to crochet, work in her garden, and spend time with her family. Mrs. Burton was a member of the Old Union Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-inlaw, Gilbert A. and Tern Burton and Edgar H. and Joe Ann Burton, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Deidra Burton, Christy Smith, Richard Burton, Ashley Verner and Leslie Schnedler; great-grandchildren, Christian Smith, Sidney Verner, Jordan Verner and Conner Leach; and brothers, Warren DuBose and Billy DuBose, both of Lufkin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry E. Burton.
